Speakeasy!’
What happens when you take 5 legendary musicians spanning 4 different eras of Mod history, and lock them in the infamous Toe Rag Studios for 2 days?
Well that’s exactly what Biff! Bang! Pow! Records have done with Mike Evans (The Action/Mighty Baby), bass player of possibly the coolest band of the 60’s, drummer Buddy Ascott (The Chords/Pope) & guitarist Simon Stebbing (The Purple Hearts/RT4) who were both at the forefront of the 1979 Mod Revival, & vocalist Mark Le Gallez (The Risk/Thee Jenerators) & also Hammond Player/Vocalist Fay Hallam (Makin’ Time/The Fay Hallam Trinity), who were both icons of the mid-80’s scene. All 5 are still happily playing on todays’ scene.
On top of that we then asked Simon, Mark & Fay to bring a self-penned number to the studio, and then we locked the door for 2 days. And what you’re hearing on this disc, ‘Speakeasy!’ – the ToeRag sessions, is the result of what happened over the weekend of 21/22 January 2006. 5 musicians covering 4 eras of the scene interpreting 3 very different songs in 2 days in the 1 and only Toe Rag Studio in London!
Featured tracks:
1. Soul Searching (S. Stebbing)
2. Love & Understanding (M. Le Gallez)
3. Seeds (F. Hallam)
Excellent ep from the scene's best know faces with the small faces inspired 'love and understanding' the pick of the bunch for me. Get your copy now!

19 Track CD
£12.00
Cat No: DRCD043 BarCode: 5032733001240
OUT NOW, a must for all 79 buffs, best know for 45 can we go dancing!
Coming out of Rutland (near Lincoln) in early 1980, the Amber Squad played a fine mix of Pub Rock / Power-Pop / Ska and Punk Rock and soon built up a reputation as a great live band with their powerful originals and classic R&B covers.
Releasing their debut single I Can't Put My Finger On You in 1980 on the 'S T' label, the band stretched their wings and made a break for the bright lights of the gigging circuit in London and Birmingham.
The band switched to the Lincoln based 'Dead Dead Good' label for their second single 'Can We Go Dancing' and they found themselves on the Radio 1 playlist, being featured on John Peel's show and on Kid Jensen's Round Table.
The following year they appeared on the 'S T' compilation 'Where The Hell Is Leicester' with the unreleased track 'Six of Me', however after years slogging around the gigging circuit eventually reality hit home in the form of proper jobs and mortgages and the band called it a day.
Now Detour Records present to you the band's entire recorded output on one lovingly crafted package. Featuring both singles, the compilation appearance and 14 previously unreleased tracks and great artwork and liner notes by the band this is a release that anyone with an interest in the Mod / Punk era cannot afford to be without.

ON THE SCENE
On the Scene’ is the only FREE scooterist publication that is distributed to all UK scooter rallies, Mod and Soul events, retro boutiques and UK scooter clubs.
Background
On The Scene has been running for almost 2 years now and has a print run of 15,000, which as each copy is FREE means every copy is utilized unlike standard off the shelf magazines, which run on a sale or return basis.
We believe 'On the Scene' is a perfect place for any Scooter/Mod based business to advertise their product or service due to the potential longevity the guide offers and the specific audience that will be targeted.
Rather than placing an advert in the scootering press where it is placed amongst others in one of several pages and may only be read once (if your lucky), the guide due to it's actual purpose will be viewed and referred to probably several times before it is disposed of.
If you would like to advertise your next issue then please email your event details to this address and send payment of £5 per event to admin@fresh-promotion.co.uk via Paypal. Or if you prefer phone 01253 318267 and pay by debit or credit card.

A scooter that Sting and Phil Daniels rode in Quadrophenia may also appear in the new film.
